Distributing microgreens

Harvesting microgreens

During the pandemic, I recognized that certain areas in my neighborhood did not have access to quality food.  Having harvested produce at a community garden for donation to a food pantry, I was inspired to address this problem. I passionately embarked on a journey to scale up microgreens production to find a solution to provide a form of nutritious and fresh produce all around the year.

A baker's rack served as a mini farm in my basement, and I began to grow microgreens to donate. I have been distributing 200 boxes of microgreens every month and hand out pamphlets with information about microgreens. I also share ideas on how to use them in regular meals. The response from the community is outstanding. Each time I visit, people at the pantry would the unique ways they had incorporated microgreens into their diets.

Sustainability is my prime focus. I use all biodegradable packaging and compostable growing mats. While the material I am using is promoting sustainable practices, I am also striving to make Pixie Greens financially sustainable. Initial set up cost was funded by my savings from part time job. After I ran out of those funds, I have begun to sell 20 boxes from every produce cycle. The proceeds from the sales is able to cover the expenses of the boxes for distribution. Form below can be filled to be on the customer list.
